Meet the Cast: Part Three!

Our last, but not least, actress is Laura McGuire as Red Fan Girl. Not only was Laura an amazing actress, but she was a big help in the costume department and introducing us to our fantastic make-up and hair artist Jorie Lodes. Here’s a bit more about Laura:

Laura McGuire is a professional burlesque and vaudeville performer and has been entertaining audiences in the United States and in Europe since 2002.  She is an annual featured performer at the Burlesque Hall of Fame convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas.  A devotee of early twentieth century down-market stagecraft, Laura’s approach to her art combines vintage glamour mingled with a heavy dose of ironic comedy.  Before moving to Austin, Laura lived in the northeast, where she was trained in theater in the chilly state of Maine.  Her numerous roles have included Debbie in Tom Stoppard’s “The Real Thing,”  Mrs. Thoreau in Robert Edwin Lee’s “The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail,” and Euelpides in Aristophanes’ “The Birds.”

The Ventilo trailer is live! I so wish YouTube had HD options, it would look so much better, but at least it’s there! Enjoy and I hope you all come out to see it on March 17th, 18th or the 20th.

Coming to a website near you, the Ventilo trailer!!!!!! The trailer was finalized last night, and now we just have to wait for SXSW to post it onto their site. Their new trailer player, this year, is really neat. I like it! So let the countdown begin, but with an estimated countdown, not an exact date. Sorry. :( It’ll still be fun!

Tinted Windows debuts at SXSW Music Festival

I know that I’m going to SXSW for the film part, but this article just made me want to check out at least one music act. Strangest pairing for a band, ever. Here’s some more info of Tinted Windows:

Can’t find any of their music yet since they have yet to release their debut album, but I’m curious to see what this group’s sound is like. Also, can this really be real?

Film Festivals get creative, and I like it!

SXSW for the first time, announced that they are creating a official SXSW Screening Room. As a filmmaker and producer, I am very excited about this new initiative. Here’s what Rebecca Feferman, the Press Liaison for SXSW Film Festival, had to say about it:

“…for the first time, SXSW Film will be hosting a screening library for the attending press and industry. Registered press and select industry will be able to go to the Library and view available films if they are unable to attend any screenings.”

Some filmmaker’s may seem a bit hesitant to just drop off a DVD of their film for press and influential industry people to watch on a small TV. No this is not any filmmaker’s preferred viewing outlet, but would you rather important people see your film or not? In the case of Ventilo, which was shot in gorgeous true 1080i HD, no I’m not ecstatic about people watching it on a DVD, but getting more eyes on the film is the goal here. Most people don’t go to film festivals to watch short film showcases, so directors of short films, this new screening room idea is perfect for us. Keep that in mind.

Introducing Hallie Martin (aka Blue fan girl)

Let’s Meet the Cast, Part Two!

Our lovely Blue fan girl was played by the lovely Hallie Martin. While casting, I was hoping to find some real burlesque feather fan dancers. In Austin, there has been a huge burlesque serge over the years, so there are troupes everywhere! I found Hallie’s troupe, The Jigglewatts, on Myspace and sent them an email detailing the film. Here’s some more about Hallie:

Hallie Martin is a native Austinite with extensive experience in dance, theatre and film. In theatre, Hallie has worked at the esteemed Austin Playhouse, performing the roles of Gwendolen in Travesties, and Karen in Speed-the-Plow.  She also played Lesly in The Coda Project’s The House of Yes, and played the lead role of Eva in the original musical The Cafe du Cache.  Combining her love of theatre, dance, vintage glamour and kitsch, she formed The Jigglewatts burlesque troupe in 2006, and won the award for “Most Original” for her number in the Texas Burlesque Festival 2007. In film, Hallie recently played a supporting role in Tim McCanlies’ feature The Two Bobs (spring 2009), and starred as Charity in the feature comedy thriller Z: A Zombie Musical. She has also appeared in many short films and music videos, including the award-winning “Love Ya Like” and The Riverboat Gamblers’ “I’m Still Not Dead Yet”. Hallie is represented by BLVD Talent in Austin. www.halliemartin.com

*note: With casting, don’t be afraid to search out people you want in your film. Don’t expect everyone to come to you, especially if you’re relaying on only one site for casting posts. Put the info out there, but then do a little bit of research. If you need a ballerina, go look for some ballerinas.
